Ferox™ was successfully applied in the vadose zone at a site located in Newark, New Jersey. The geology at this active industrial facility consists primarily of fine to coarse-grained sand with approximately 15-20% fines. Approximately 1,500 cu.yd of TCE and PCE-contaminated soils lay underneath 6 inches of concrete.

Subsequent to injection, iron powder was detected at a radial distance of more than 9 ft. from the injection point throughout. Average total iron content within the soil matrix increased by 170%. The iron powder was injected within a 6 ft. vertical thickness in the vadose zone.
Post-injection samples collected from within the Ferox™ application zone indicated PCE and TCE reductions as high as 86 and 98%, respectively. These reductions were achieved within the 3.5 month remediation period without the accumulation of daughter products associated with PCE and TCE degradation. The reduction pattern had a strong correlation with the iron distribution.
